Dream Big
“Dream big.” I said in a recent coaching session with a client. “What would you want next if you could be or do anything at your current company?”
Dream big.
As we discussed her goal to transition from a role she has been in for 8 years, I asked what next.
Her goal was to TRANSITION FROM.
Her focus was what she wanted to leave behind, to free herself from.
Her vision of her future was to maybe return to a role she had held previously within the company. A previous role in which she had succeeded. A previous known, safe role.
Often our goals are rooted in what we no longer want; what we want to be free from or change about a present situation.
When we focus on what we no longer want, we limit ourselves.
We limit our ability to see the world of possibilities and exciting opportunities before us.
Shifting focus to what she wanted to TRANSITION TO rather than transition from was not easy. It also took a bit of encouragement. Some self reflection. Some questioning of assumptions and identifying self limiting beliefs.
It took work.
No different than what it will take to achieve a goal to transition to something better.
By the end of our one-hour coaching session, my client had a revised goal, complete with milestones and deadlines. A goal and action plan that will keep her focused on what’s next.
Her goal, to transition to a director level position and lead a team of professions in a to-be created environmental practice group, is an exciting future opportunity for her, her family, and the company she works for.
All because she is willing to be bold and DREAM BIG.
